Response

In relation to your request regarding driver training for police officers, the States of Jersey Police can confirm the following:

1. Delivery of Driver Training

Driver training is delivered within the force through an internal training programme aligned with the States of Jersey Police Emergency Response Driver Training (ERDT) framework.

2. Outsourcing to Other Police Forces

Driver training is not outsourced to other police forces.

3. Details of Other Forces (if applicable)

Not applicable.

4. Outsourcing to Private Providers

Elements of driver training are delivered in partnership with a private provider.

5. Details of Private Provider(s)

Emergency Response Driver Training (ERDT) is delivered in conjunction with a specialist private driver training company.

6. Number of Officers

States of Jersey Police currently employs 198 FTE police officers (as at 22 June 2026).

7. Number of Driver Trainers

States of Jersey Police have four officers/staff members trained to deliver driver training.

8. Compliance with College of Policing Standards

Driver training is aligned with Roadcraft: The Police Driver’s Handbook, which is endorsed by the UK College of Policing, thereby ensuring consistency with nationally recognised policing standards.​
