Request

Please provide the amount of money which Health and Care Jersey allocated for programmes to support children in each of the three fiscal years 2022-2024, for the flu vaccine immunization programme.

Response

The total expenditure on the nasal influenza vaccine used in the childhood vaccination programme for each flu season in the timeframe is:

Flu Season

Total Cost

2022 to 2023

£ 190,158

2023 to 2024

£ 208,438

2024 to 2025

£ 173,765

These figures represent actual expenditure rather than budget allocation.

It is not possible to report budget allocation or total expenditure involved in administering ‘flu vaccines specifically, as these are part of the wider budget and costs for the childhood vaccination programme delivered by Health and Care Jersey’s Public Health Directorate in collaboration with GP practices. HCJ has previously published information on the costs associated with GP assistance in delivering the childhood vaccination programme: available at Financial incentive related to the administration of vaccines by GP practices.

This expenditure is not attributed specifically to the delivery of ‘flu vaccines and relates to the full scope of the childhood vaccination programme.

It is estimated that to review all records related to delivery of childhood vaccinations across all providers administering these vaccines and teams assisting in the programme to identify costs relating solely to delivery of ‘flu vaccines would exceed the timescales prescribed in the Freedom of Information (Costs) (Jersey) Regulations 2014. Therefore, Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied in this respect.

Article(s) applied

Article 16 A scheduled public authority may refuse to supply information if cost excessive

(1)     A scheduled public authority that has been requested to supply information may refuse to supply the information if it estimates that the cost of doing so would exceed an amount determined in the manner prescribed by Regulations.
