Provide information held for the following:
1. Could you please provide the current Jersey net population figure excluding all work permit holders, together with any dependants residing in Jersey whose right to remain is solely dependent on a person working in Jersey under a time limited work permit?
Response
1. As of 16th July 2026, there were 8648 work permit holders, including dependents residing in Jersey whose right to remain is solely dependent on a person working in Jersey under a time limited work permit.
Jersey Customs and Immigration, as part of Justice and Home Affairs, does not hold a recorded population figure with these categories removed. We hold the immigration figure shown above, but the official population data is held and published by Statistics Jersey. The two figures may use different definitions and reference dates, so subtracting one from the other may not produce an accurate official population figure.
Jersey Customs and Immigration as part of Justice and Home Affairs does not hold the requested Jersey population figures. Therefore, Article 3, Meaning of “information held by a public authority” of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies.
Further information regarding Net Population figures may be available at https://stats.je/statistic/population/.
