Jersey National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme (NARRS) Report 2007 - 2012

Produced by the Environment (Infrastructure and Environment)
Authored by Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust (ARC) and published on 30 Apr 2015
Cost: £1,000.00

Summary

The department commissioned the Amphibian and Reptile Trust to analyse and prepare a report on Jersey's National Amphibian and Reptile Recording Scheme. The scheme forms part of the department's integrated ecological monitoring programme for Jersey in order to carry out 'State of the Environment Monitoring'.

Jersey has three amphibians:

  • the agile frog
  • toad (crapaud)
  • palmate newt

And four reptiles:

  • grass snake
  • slow-worm
  • wall lizard
  • green lizard

Ecological data on these species is collected over a 6 year cycle in order to:

  • generate sufficient records on which to base an assessment of conservation status
  • investigate changes in species' occupancy over a realistic timescale

The use of established survey protocols is intended to provide a robust basis for conservation decision making.

The scheme uses Jersey NARRS trained volunteers to carry out surveys at no additional cost.
