Subject: Victoria College (“VC”) and Victoria College Preparatory (“VCP”) - Approval of fees for the academic year 2019-2020. |
Decision(s): The Minister approved the fees for the 2019-20 academic year proposed by the governing body of VC (£1,916 per term from September 2019 and £2,060 per term commencing January 2020) and VCP (£1,899 per term from September 2019 and £2,042 per term commencing January 2020) This represents an increase of 7.5% from January 2020 in order to meet anticipated costs. The Minister also approved the fees for the 2020-21 academic year proposed by the governing body of VC (2,163 per term) and VCP (£2,144 per term), an increase of 5% in order to meet anticipated costs. The Minister further agreed that, in accordance with Financial Direction 4.1 “Increases in States Fees and Charges”, the Minister for Treasury and Resources should be requested to endorse the fee increases for VC and VCP. |
Reason(s) for Decision: To meet the requirements of Article 13a of the Education (Jersey) Law 1999 which requires that the fees set by the respective governing body are approved by the Minister. |
Resource Implications: The fee increase for VC is forecast to result in additional income of £361,000 in 2020, being circa £191,000 arising from an increase of 7.5% from January 2020 plus a further £170,000 from September based on an additional 5% (on top of the 7.5%) for the academic year 2020-2021. The fee increase for VCP is forecast to result in additional income of £152,000 in 2020, being circa £81,000 arising from an increase of 7.5% from January 2020 plus a further £71,000 from September based on an additional 5% (on top of the 7.5%) for the academic year 2020-2021. |
Action required: In accordance with Financial Direction 4.1 “Increases in States Fees and Charges”, to request the approval of the Treasurer of the States, under delegated authority, for the fees in respect of Victoria College and Victoria College Preparatory to be increased by more than 2.5%. To advise the governing body that the Minister has approved the increase in fees. |
