Subject: Jersey College for Girls (“JCG”) and Jersey College Preparatory (“JCP”) - Approval of fees for the academic year 2019-2020. |
Decision(s): The Minister approved the fees for the 2019-20 academic year proposed by the governing body of JCG (£1822 per term from September 2019 and £1960 per term commencing January 2020) and JCP (£1761 per term from September and £1893 per term commencing January 2020) This represents an increase of 7.5% from January 2020 in order to meet anticipated costs. The Minister also approved the fees for the 2020-21 academic year proposed by the governing body of JCG (£2058 per term) and JCP (£1988 per term), an increase of 5% in order to meet anticipated costs. She further agreed that, in accordance with Financial Direction 4.1 “Increases in States Fees and Charges”, the Minister for Treasury and Resources should be requested to endorse the fee increases for JCG and JCP. |
Reason(s) for Decision: To meet the requirements of Article 13a of the Education (Jersey) Law 1999 which requires that the fees set by the respective governing body are approved by the Minister. |
Resource Implications: The fee increase for JCG is forecast to result in additional income of £292,000 for financial year 2020 (based on a fee increase of 7.5% from Jan 2020 and a further indicative rise of 5% from Sept 2020). The fee increase for JCP is forecast to result in additional income of circa £143,000 for 2020 (based on a fee increase of 7.5% from Jan 2020 and a further indicative rise of 5% from Sept 2020). |
Action required: In accordance with Financial Direction 4.1 “Increases in States Fees and Charges”, to request the approval of the Treasurer of the States, under delegated authority, for the fees in respect of Jersey College for Girls and Jersey College Preparatory to be increased by more than 2.5%. To advise the governing body that the Minister has approved the increase in fees. |
