Twenty vehicles found with defective lights

22 February 2008

The drivers of twenty vehicles with defective lights were issued with defect rectification notices and nine of those drivers were required to update their vehicle registration or driving licence details.

Between 6.15 and 7.30pm on Tuesday 19 February 2008 officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS), were joined by the Honorary Police of St Lawrence, to conduct a road check on Victoria Avenue, specifically targeted at checking headlamp alignment and operation.

Of the 22 vehicles that were called into the check, 20 were found to have either misaligned headlamps or lamps not working. Despite two of the vehicles displaying red warning lamps within the instrument panel their drivers had failed to take any remedial action. All 20 Drivers were required to present their vehicles at Driver and Vehicle Standards with the defects rectified.

Additionally, of the drivers stopped, five were required to inform DVS of a change in registered keeper details and four were required to update their driving licence details. Enquiries are ongoing to determine whether one driver actually had a driving licence.

A great example of inter-agency working, this was a busy road check that highlighted individual driver’s compliancy about checking the lights on their vehicles.

Furthermore, all drivers are reminded of their legal obligation to advise their parish of any change affecting their driving licence details and DVS of any change affecting the registered keeper details of their vehicle.
