Health professionals and police officers continue to be concerned for the welfare of the mother of a newborn baby boy who was left at Jersey’s General Hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday 18).
The baby was no more than 30 minutes old when it was left and still had the umbilical cord attached.
He is now being cared for by hospital staff and is doing well.
Overnight, police officers have been conducting extensive CCTV enquiries, as well as following up leads which have come in and speaking to potential witnesses, but so far the mother has not been traced.
A dedicated phone line has been set up for the mother which will go through to the Maternity Unit. That number is 01534 442456.
Officers have been working in consultation with the Health Department to visit expectant mothers in the hope that someone may know who this women is.
Message for the mother
Acting Chief Inspector Mark Coxshall said: “We continue to be incredibly worried about the mother, we can’t begin to imagine how desperate you must have been. Please come forward so that we know you are safe and well. You don’t have to call us, you can call Jan. She will ensure you are looked after.
“We also want to take the opportunity to thank the public for their huge amount of concern and compassion and we appreciate all your assistance. Please continue with what you are doing.”
