Amended marriage law on track for July

18 May 2018

The amended law that allows for same-sex and open-air marriages to take place in Jersey could come into force as early as 1 July 2018.

It is anticipated that the Marriage and Civil Status (Amendments No. 4) (Jersey) Law 201- will have been considered by the Privy Council by the end of this month. This would enable it to be registered in the Royal Court in time for an Appointed Day Act to be put to the new States Assembly during the sitting commencing 26 June 2018. If adopted, the legislation would then come into force one week later, on 1 July.

However, Islanders whose plans may be affected by the Marriage and Civil Status Law are advised to consult the States Assembly website to check on the progress of the legislation.
