Businesses offered insight into energy bills

19 November 2018

Eco Active Jersey are running a free 'lunch and learn' session to teach island businesses how to better understand their energy bills and save money.

The 'lunch and learn', which is on Thursday, 22 November at the Jersey Library, is being held as part of the Switch Off Fortnight initiative.

Switch Off Fortnight is running in more than 1,750 schools across the UK over November. The campaign encourages students to focus on saving energy and explains why reducing energy wastage is important. Eco Active are looking to extend the campaign so that island businesses can get involved in saving energy too.

As well as the lunchtime session, Eco Active are offering to run a similar session for staff at large businesses, so that employees can find out how to understand their domestic energy bills in order to save money at home, as well as in the workplace.

Jane Burns, Eco Active Programme Manager, said: “Saving energy reduces our impact on our planet, as well as on our purses, and Switch Off Fortnight is a great initiative to teach school students the basics of reducing energy wastage. On average, schools that run the Switch Off Fortnight campaign can see their energy bills drop by ten percent. We hope that school students will take home what they’ve learnt and will save energy and potentially money at home too.

“We're extending this campaign so island businesses can do their bit to save energy. Better understanding of energy bills and reducing wasted energy will help our environment, while also helping island businesses to save money.”

Businesses who would like to attend the free session can email ecoactive@gov.je for more information and to book a place. Businesses must be signed up to the Eco Active business programme to be eligible to attend.
