Islanders apply to join Our Hospital Citizens' Panel

20 November 2019

More than 100 Islanders have so far applied to become members of the Our Hospital Citizens’ Panel, which is being set up to help provide a representative voice during the project to build Jersey’s new hospital.

The Panel’s role is to make sure that the views of Islanders are taken into account by the project when it looks at the criteria to determine where the new hospital might be built.

Assistant Minister for Health and Community Services, Deputy Hugh Raymond, said: “To see that so many Islanders wish to be part of such an important project for Jersey is extremely encouraging and really does allow us to ensure that we have the community at the very heart of our decision-making process.

Being part of this panel gives people a unique opportunity to help shape our hospital to fit the needs of our patients today, and into the future. Their input is going to be vitally important in helping determine the criteria for assessing the size, shape and location of Jersey’s new hospital by informing the decision-making parameters and requirements.

We would like people to continue applying so that the pool of people to choose from is as representative of the population as possible. We want to hear from anyone who wants to contribute to shaping how our future health care needs will be met.”

The panel will be asked to reach a consensus view on the criteria that the Our Hospital Project Team should use to determine where the new hospital could be built – although the panel will not be asked to give its view about where that location should be.

Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Our Hospital Citizens’ Panel can apply online or by picking up an application form from any parish hall and returning it, once completed, to the Government offices on Broad Street.

Applications close on Friday, 29 November 2019.
