Discover your skills at annual show

14 October 2019

Students preparing for life after school and members of the public who are considering a career change or developing their skills are encouraged to attend the Jersey Skills Show this week.

In its fifth year, the annual event is an interactive take on a traditional careers fair where islanders can try their hand at a variety of roles across a number of local industries – from window dressing for work in retail to watching chefs preparing dishes.

Supported by Grant Thornton, the Jersey Skills Show is a chance for islanders young and old to find out about career opportunities on-island. As well as information about training, apprenticeships and further education, employers from a host of industries – including medical, construction, digital and animal science – will be at the event to offer practical advice.

The Minister for Education, Senator Tracey Vallois, said: “I hope islanders of all ages will come along to have a go at different skills and discover new talents. This is your chance to speak to employers about working within a particular industry and to be inspired by the talents of those already trained and working in a job you’re interested in.

“There will be advice and guidance from industry professionals and Skills Jersey to give advice to career changers or islanders interested in developing their skills to take the next steps for their future, whether it be for work or study.”

Adam Budworth, Managing Director at Grant Thornton, said: “We at Grant Thornton are delighted to be the principle sponsor of the Jersey Skills Show for our fourth consecutive year. It’s always very pleasing to see the range of skills on offer and the wide variety of businesses that support the island’s economy.”

The Jersey Skills Show is at Fort Regent on Friday, 18 October from 10am to 5pm. The free event is open to the public from 3pm and students from primary and secondary schools will be attending throughout the day.
