Putting sustainable wellbeing at the heart of government

14 November 2019

The Government of Jersey is hosting a public seminar on Thursday, 12 December to look at what sustainable wellbeing can mean for Jersey.

Earlier this year, the States Assembly passed the Public Finances (Jersey) Law 2019 which requires the Council of Ministers to take account of the sustainable wellbeing of current and future generations when developing the annual Government Plan.

The keynote speaker for the seminar will be Jennifer Wallace, Head of Policy at the influential Carnegie UK Trust, and a recognised expert and author on wellbeing, public sector reform and community empowerment. Jennifer will provide a short overview of wellbeing policy internationally and her speech will set the scene for a panel discussion on the core question of ‘Sustainable wellbeing in Jersey: What does it mean? What should it mean?’

Panel members will be Beth Moore of Recovery College Jersey, Katie Le Quesne of the Lloyds Foundation, and Anuschka Muller, the Government’s Director of Stratgic Planning and Performance. The Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, and the Assistant Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture with delegated responsibility for sport, Senator Steve Pallett, will also be contributing to the seminar.

Megan Mathias, Group Director of Policy for Strategic Policy, Planning and Performance, said: “The Public Finances Law places wellbeing at the heart of our government and this public session will explore what it can mean for Islanders. This is the start of a conversation and I’d encourage anyone with an interest in sustainability and wellbeing to join us.”

The seminar is being held at St Paul’s Centre, St Helier, from 11.45am to 1.45pm and anyone interested in attending can book their place on Eventbrite.
