Deadline for filing paper tax returns is fast approaching

Islanders only have until midnight on Sunday 31 May to submit their paper tax return but with an extra two months to file online, Revenue Jersey are encouraging Islanders to use their new online form. 

31,000 Islanders have already completed their tax return for 2019, roughly 46% of the total due, 24,000 of those submitted have been paper returns and 7,000 via the online form.  

 

Revenue Jersey introduced online tax returns for the first time this year, with the aim of making it quicker and easier to file a return. 

In addition to giving islander an extra two months to file, the online form also offers the benefit of guidance notes for each question, personalises the form based on the answers given, and allows users to pause their submission and return to the form.  The form has also received an 82% positive scoring from those who have used it. 

To use the online system, Islanders will need a onegov customer portal account and a YOTI digital ID, which requires a smartphone and valid passport.  Over 10,000 islanders have already successfully signed up for their onegov account.  While smartphones validate identity and control access to Government systems, the online tax return can then be completed on a desktop computer or smartpad.

Islanders can file online via the Government of Jersey website. Help videos and guidance notes for paper tax returns are also available online. 

For those Islanders who want to complete their paper form, they need to be returned using the postbox at Customer and Local Services on La Motte Street.
