The Jersey Immunisation Statistics report for 2021 has been published today, covering
childhood, teenage, and adult immunisations.
In 2021, Jersey met the uptake target set by the World Health Organisation for 12 of
the 13 vaccine coverage measures amongst 1, 2 and 5-year-olds. This includes
coverage of over 95% for the following vaccines:
- The 6-in-1 vaccine , protecting against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio,
Haemophilus influenza type B and hepatitis B
- Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) - 97%
- Rotavirus vaccine - 96%
- Infant meningitis B (MenB) vaccine - 97%
- First dose of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) - 96%
- Haemophilus influenza type B/Meningitis C (Hib/MenC) vaccine - 96%
Among teenagers, the vaccine coverage for the HPV, Teen-booster and MenACWY
programmes was lower in 2021/2022 when compared to previous years.
Among adults:
- Coverage of the pertussis vaccine in pregnant women was 80%, which is a 2% increase
based on the 2020 position
- Around half of Islanders who became eligible for the shingles vaccine on their 70th
birthday received the vaccine
- PPV vaccine coverage was 46% for those aged 65 and over
Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Karen Wilson, said: “This is a fabulous
response from the public who clearly understand the importance of keeping our
community safe from serious illness and I commend everyone on the high level of
courage achieved for children vaccination.
“Vaccinations are the best tool we have of minimising disease, and serious illness and
I continue to encourage those who are eligible for certain vaccines to receive them so
they are best protected throughout their lives.”
