Free flu vaccine reminder for Islanders aged 50 and over

08 December 2023

Islanders aged 50 and over are encouraged to get their free flu vaccine at their GP or pharmacy, if they have not yet done so.

Since September, nearly 30,000 flu vaccines have been administered, which is just under half of the eligible population.

Deputy Director of Public Health, Grace Norman, said: "I urge all Islanders who are eligible for the vaccine to get it as soon as possible. Flu viruses change over time and are often unpredictable, which means that even if you received the vaccine last year, you should get it again this year to stay protected. The vaccine is free for all eligible groups and it is important that Islanders take up this offer."

Those eligible for the COVID booster can book their COVID and flu vaccines at Fort Regent and receive both at the same time.

The flu vaccine is available free of charge to:

  • Islanders aged 50 and over [COVID eligibility – over 65s, healthcare workers & clinical risk groups]
  • Healthcare workers and registered carers
  • Children aged 6 months to 2 years and clinically at risk
  • Children aged 2 up to 16 years
  • All those aged 16 to 50 years who are clinically at-risk (includes pregnant women)
  • Households of clinically at-risk Islanders or those on the shielded patient list
