Two men have been sentenced in the Royal Court today for money laundering offences following a lengthy investigation by the Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, JCIS.

Both originating from Jersey, Sean Liam Cooney, 29, was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and Joseph John Reaney, 31, was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months imprisonment for entering into an arrangement which they knew facilitated the possession or control of criminal property.

This followed a lengthy investigation by JCIS and resulted in a combined JCIS and Police team arresting both males during the early hours of Wednesday 15 December 2021, whilst they were attempting to export £112,945 cash in a Rigid Inflatable Boat from Belval Cove, St Catherine’s under the cover of darkness.

Senior Manager Luke Goddard said. “The arrest and conviction of those involved in the movement of criminal assets is a priority for the Customs and Immigration Service. This case demonstrates the lengths criminals will go to in order to move the proceeds of their criminal activity and the measures that will be taken by this Service in order to prevent them from doing so. Undoubtedly the actions of this Service have dismantled a criminal syndicate that was based in the Island.”
