Chief Minister attends 45th British-Irish Council Summit in Guernsey

10 July 2026

The Chief Minister, Senator Lyndon Farnham attended the 45th British-Irish Council Summit in Guernsey today.

The Summit, from 9 to 10 July, brought together representatives from the Council's eight member administrations, including the Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, Darren Jones MP, Chief Ministers of the Crown Dependencies, and Ministers from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The formal discussion focused on strengthening early years and family support. Ministers considered potential improvements that could lead to better outcomes and enhanced wellbeing. This was followed by an update on political developments in each administration.

Senator Lyndon Farnham said: "The British-Irish Council is an important forum in which we build strong relationships across member administrations. Our early years team in Jersey share expertise with their counterparts in the other jurisdictions and collaborate on proposals that will benefit our children and families.’
