Infrastructure and Environment's Marine Resources team is inviting Islanders to donate their surplus fishing nets on Friday 1 May, with collected nets being sent to Ukraine to form part of vital defence efforts.
New Sea Fisheries Regulations recently came into effect, these include a ban against the use of mesh sizes smaller than 100mm for commercial nets and 112mm for recreational nets. As a result, some local fishers may have nets they can no longer use. Rather than disposing of this equipment, Islanders are encouraged to donate these nets so they can be sent onwards and repurposed.
The handover is taking place at two locations on Friday 1 May:
- Marine Resources Workshop, La Collette – 1pm to 5pm
- Howard Davis Farm – 8.30am to 12pm
