Innovative Islanders will soon be able to protect designs such as trademarks, patents and
industrial designs in many jurisdictions worldwide using a single form.
The States Assembly has approved a request being made to the UK for the extension of four key
international treaties to Jersey. The extension, P.117/2025, will enable Jersey to participate in
international registration systems run by the World Intellectual Property Organisation, WIPO, that enable trademarks, patents and industrial designs to be registered in a large
number of jurisdictions through a single application.
Deputy Moz Scott, the Assistant Minister for External Relations, has been leading
the Government initiative to modernise Jersey’s intellectual property protection system. She
said: “I welcome the continued support of States Members for the modernisation of Jersey’s
intellectual property protection system. This will help deliver a key Common Strategic Policy
priority to support the Island's economic wellbeing by reducing red tape, enhancing
opportunities for businesses, and strengthening Jersey's international reputation."
