Minister confirms details of new Back to School Bonus

14 April 2026

Eligible families will be helped with the cost of preparing children for the new school year with a new Back to School Bonus this summer.

The payment is intended to help families with expenses such as uniforms, shoes, stationery and other back to school essentials and will be issued as a lump sum, allowing families to spend the support as needed.

The Back to School Bonus will be available for children who will be at school in Jersey in September 2026 from Reception to Year 11.

Eligible households will receive:

  • £100 for each Primary school child
  • £150 for each Secondary school child

One payment will be made per family, in the summer holiday, ahead of the new school year.

The scheme will be means tested, with families with a combined income of up to £75,000 in 2025 eligible to claim the bonus.

Automatic payments will be made to households receiving Income Support. Families not covered by Income Support will be able to apply through a simple application form.

The Minister for Social Security, Deputy Lyndsay Feltham said:  “As part of the Government's commitment in the Budget, I am pleased we are in a position to introduce this Back to School Bonus. I recognise the cost-of-living pressures many households are facing and it's important that we help where we can to ease any financial stress on families by ensuring children across the Island have the essentials they need for the new school year."

Details on how to apply will be provided in the summer school term.
