£1 coin withdrawal

No more £1 coins

Our £1 coins won’t be around for much longer. From 15 October 2017 you won’t be able to use them as legal tender.

We’ve chosen to withdraw our £1 coin because it’s been around much longer than other modern coins, leaving it vulnerable to counterfeiters. Our £1 coins won’t be replaced with a new coin, we will rely on our £1 notes and a new £1 coin being introduced by the UK.

New UK £1 coin

The Royal Mint is introducing a new UK £1 coin on 28 March 2017. The new UK £1 coin will be accepted in Jersey just like all other UK coins. The new UK £1 coin has a number of features that make it much more difficult to counterfeit.

If you would like to find out more about the new coin, visit the new pound coin website.

Exchanging old Jersey and UK £1 coins

If you have any old £1 coins, you won’t be able to use them as legal tender for much longer. You’ll need to take them to your bank by the 15 October 2017 and exchange them or pay them into your bank account.
