The School Council Network

About the network

The School Council Network was established in response to a recommendation from the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry.

The School Council Network brings together students from primary and secondary school councils in Jersey.

The purpose of the School Council Network is to give children and young people the opportunity to meet and learn from each other and have a voice in policies and decision making.

At the School Council Network meetings, students:

  • discuss and share opinions on issues important to them
  • contribute their ideas
  • engage in policy decisions
  • solve problems and learn about each other’s school councils
  • meet Ministers and policy makers

Students share and feedback the work that they do at the network with their schools.

The 3 priorities the School Council Network focused on for the 2024 to 2025 school year were:

  • more places to play
  • affordable or free activities
  • cheaper food and housing

Voice of the students

Students shared their views with the Children's Outcomes Executive Committee on how the Government can help all children to have the best life possible.

To help students participate and share their ideas, workshops and engaging activities are organised and supported by:

  • Government’s engagement and participation officers
  • School Council leads and teachers
  • Policy officers
  • the Jersey Youth Service

Find some of these activities in the toolkit.

Activity Training Toolkit

Students can meet with Ministers at the School Council Network meetings and be part of question-and-answer sessions.

Network meetings

The School Council Network meets 4 times during the school year.
