Applications for the e-bike grant scheme are now closed.
Applications for the scheme will reopen Monday 8 July 2024.
About the E-bike Grant Scheme
The E-bike Grant Scheme can offer you a grant toward the cost of buying an electric bike (e-bike).
Grants are available for 3 types of e-bike:
| Standard e-bike | £300 | A cycle equipped with an electric motor to assist the cyclist when pedalling. This excludes full suspension e-mountain bikes (eMTBs). |

| E-cargo bike | £600 | A bicycle or tricycle (but not a tandem) designed and equipped for carrying heavy or bulky loads, or passengers including children, using a long-tail design, cargo-box or tricycle.

| Adapted e-cycle | £600 | An electric cycle, other than a conventional two-wheeled human-powered or electric-assisted bicycle, that provides active mobility opportunities to people who have difficulty riding a conventional bicycle. Adaptive cycles can include tricycles, recumbent cycles, handcycles, and tandem cycles.

You can only apply for 1 type of e-bike grant each release and can only receive 1 grant per person.
We’ll release grants in batches during 2023 and 2024. This will give a chance to more people to apply and time for you to save up money for an e-bike.
Grants are awarded on a first come first served basis.
All e-bikes used in Jersey must comply with the definition of 'electrically assisted pedal cycles' found in the
Pedal Cycles (Jersey) Order 1998.
Who can apply
You must be aged 18 and over and be a Jersey resident to apply for an e-bike grant.
The legal minimum age to use an e-bike in Jersey is 14. If you’re aged between 14 and 17 and want to apply for the grant, you’ll need someone aged 18 or over to apply on your behalf.
You can apply for an under 18 grant and for your own grant separately.
Applying for the grant
Applications for e-bike grants are currently closed.
The final release of e-bike grants will reopen at 2pm on Monday 8 July.
Applications will be awarded on a first come first served basis.
As part of the application process you’ll need to select if you’re applying for a grant for:
- a standard e-bike
- an e-cargo bike
- an adapted e-cycle
We’ll email you to let you know if your application is successful. If your application is unsuccessful you can reapply for the grant when the applications reopen in July.
You’ll have 3 months to use your grant. If you do not use it, it’ll expire after this and you'll need to go through the application process again.
Buying an e-bike using your grant
You can redeem your e-bike grant at any registered e-bike supplier. You’ll need to show them:
- grant confirmation email with your unique grant reference number
- proof of your identification
- proof of your address
The bike shop will deduct the value of your grant from the purchase price of your e-bike.
You’ll be entitled to a free service for your e-bike within 3 months of purchase. Book this with the bike shop when buying your e-bike.
Adapted e-cycles
If you receive an adapted e-cycle grant we highly recommend that you attend one of Move More Jersey’s Cycle Without Limits (CWL) trial sessions.
CWL have a number of different adapted e-cycles that you can try to see which one suits you best.

Registering your bike shop to the scheme
The grant scheme is available to Jersey based bike retailers only. You'll need to register if you want to partner with the grant scheme.

Why encourage e-bike use
The
Carbon Neutral Roadmap (CNR) was agreed by the States Assembly in April 2022. It sets out how Jersey will meet its long-term target of reaching net zero emissions by 2050 in line with the Paris agreement.
Policy TR1 of the CNR aims to speed up the adoption of electric vehicles as a way of reducing Jersey’s transport related emissions. The launch of the E-bike Grant Scheme was the first phase of a wider
electric vehicle incentive which launched in 2023. A total of £300,000 from the Climate Emergency Fund has been earmarked for e-bike grants.
Benefits of e-bikes include:
- low emission of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases
- help reduce traffic congestion
- provide access for those who may struggle with a regular push bike
- improve air quality
- assist with tackling the hilly Jersey topography
- increase physical activity
