Recycling: ash and coal

You can recycle wood ash but you cannot recycle coal ash
Ash and coal

Wood ash can be:

  • added to your home composting bin
  • used as soil fertiliser
  • taken to the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre. You need to bag it and put in the kitchen waste container
  • bagged and put in your general household waste

Coal ash is potentially harmful to:

  • soil
  • plants
  • consumers of edible produce

It should be put in your general household waste.
