How you can recycle batteries

You can recycle small household batteries such as:

  • AA
  • AAA
  • sizes C and D
  • button batteries and watch batteries
  • rechargeable batteries
  • mobile phone batteries

These batteries can be recycled at various recycling points and pink battery recycling tubes available in many supermarkets, shops and schools.

Car batteries need to be taken to the car battery collection point at the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre.

How you can reduce or reuse batteries

  • ​use rechargeable batteries
  • plug your equipment into the mains
  • use solar powered batteries which are far better for the environment

Good to know

  • ​batteries should not be thrown away with your general waste as they contain heavy metals and potentially dangerous chemicals
  • batteries are delivered to a specialist recycling plant in the UK. They are sorted based on their chemical content and reprocessed to produce other products, or even new batteries

  • in Jersey, we throw away more than 800,000 batteries​ each year
