End date12/07/2021

About the consultation

As part of the Island Plan Review, AECOM were commissioned to independently undertake a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) of the draft bridging Island Plan. The SA considers how the draft bridging Island Plan seeks to address key environmental, social and economic sustainability issues that the Island is facing.

Being an independent evaluation of the Plan, the SA helps us to understand if the plan is appropriate to meet the needs of our community and economy, whilst also continuing to protect our environment. It helps us to ensure that the future development of Island is beneficial for all of Jersey.

Comments on the Sustainability Appraisal are being invited for an 8-week period, in tandem to the draft bridging Island Plan consultation which is already underway.

Comments will be considered by the Minister for the Environment and later by independent planning inspectors.

The SA comprises of three reports:

Other reports are published that consider the potential impacts of the draft bridging Island Plan. These were published in April at the same time as the launch of the Island Plan consultation:

  • the Bridging Island Plan: Viability Note considers the development viability (cost) impact of the proposed policies
  • the Children’s Rights Impact Assessment considers how the proposed policies will impact upon the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, in recognition of the Government’s commitment to put children first, which includes ensuring that children’s rights are addressed in the development of policy and legislation

Comments are also invited on these reports through the main Island Plan consultation.
