About the consultation

Government is committed to creating high-quality facilities where skaters, BMXers, rollerbladers and scooters can learn and improve their skills.

Two sites have been identified for the main hub: Les Quennevais Sports Centre and South Hill Gardens.

Both sites have enough space for a 2,000 sq m facility suitable for users of all abilities. The timescale for design, obtaining approval, building and opening the skatepark would be approximately the same for both.

Background

In June 2019, Les Quennevais scored top in a desktop site suitability assessment  of 15 locations (South Hill Gardens was equal third).

Shortly after the assessment, a survey was conducted into Islanders' views of Les Quennevais Sports Centre as the locaiton for the skatepark.

Since the 2019 desktop site suitability assessment, South Hill Gardens has been reviewed in greater detail, and the issues around planning sensitivity and engineering challenges which affected South Hill’s rating are now considered less of an obstacle to design and construction. The benefits and drawbacks associated with Les Quennevais remain the same.

Whichever site is chosen, Government is committed to serving the needs of all skatepark users in Jersey, and additional facilities elsewhere in the Island, will be built to provide accessible facilities for all.
