Woodworking machinery approved code of practice

Start date18/05/2010
End date30/07/2010
Type of consultationOther

About the consultation

A new code of practice on the safe use of woodworking machinery is currently being considered by Deputy Ian Gorst.

The code of practice will apply to all woodworking machinery, except for hand held portable machines, used at all types of workplaces in the Island.

It is being proposed because:

  • there have been a number of serious accidents to users of woodworking machinery in recent years
  • the existing legal requirement for the safety of woodworking machines, set out under Regulation 6 of the Safeguarding of Workers (Machinery and Woodworking Machines) (Jersey) Regulations, 1967, is outdated and does not reflect current standards. It is intended that Regulation 6 will be revoked after the approved code of practice comes into force

The code of practice is intended to provide practical guidance on:

  • training
  • supervision
  • medical standards
  • general and specific machinery safety
  • health issues
