When you need to register a stillbirth

If  your baby is stillborn after 24 weeks of pregnancy, you need to register the birth in the Stillbirth Register within five days.

We will work with The Maternity Unit to make sure that the registration of your baby's birth is carried out to your wishes and in accordance with the law.

How to register a stillbirth

We can come to the hospital or you can make a private appointment with us at the Office of the Superintendent Registrar.

The Maternity Unit will provide you with all the supporting documentation you need to give us for the registration of your baby's stillbirth.

One or both parents will need to sign the Stillbirth Register.

We will then give you a Certificate of Stillbirth and a form to permit the burial or cremation of your child.

We do not charge for the registration or for a Certificate of Stillbirth.
