Vehicle registration system replacement project

Live date: phased throughout 2019

What is the vehicle registration system project?

The project will replace our legacy vehicle registration system with more digitally enabled technology, with the goal of introducing more self-service options to our customers so that they can transact at a time and place which suits them.

Why we need the system

Many driver and vehicle services are paper-based, time consuming and affect a large number of people. In addition, changes to commercial vehicles and licensing have come into force and have introduced inspections on commercial vehicles to improve safety on the road.

We need a more efficient system capable of managing these changes whilst preparing for future requirements.

Benefits of the vehicle system

The project will:

  • reduce operational costs
  • send reminders and notifications in a secure way
  • introduce new online services
  • allow access to information through web channels

Challenges we face

We realise that some people will still want to complete forms and visit in person so we need to make sure that all of these options are still available.

We need to build a system that makes it easier for customers to use the online services.

What’s next?

The core Vehicle Registration System will be replaced in Q4 2019, this will be the platform upon which additional functionality will be introduced.
