Please also indicate in how many cases the illness was successfully treated.

Response

The Channel Islands Cancer Report 2017 was published in June 2017 and provides basic statistics on cancer in residents of the Channel Islands between 2001 and 2014. The report can be accessed at the following link:

Channel Islands Cancer Report 2017

Since June 2011 there have been a total of 30 unique patients with a diagnosis code relating to mesothelioma admitted to Jersey General Hospital as an inpatient. These 30 patients were admitted a total of 267 times for either inpatient or day case episodes.

The table below shows the number of unique patients admitted by year.

  2011   (from June)

2017 (to July)

Mesothelioma is an incurable condition and therefore there has been no successful treatments to date.

We are unable to provide the gender of the patients as, due to the low numbers, this may result in the identification of an individual. Article 25 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore been applied.

Exemption applied

Article 25 - Personal information

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005.

(2) Information is absolutely exempt information if –

(a) it constitutes personal data of which the applicant is not the data subject as defined in the Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2005; and

(b) its supply to a member of the public would contravene any of the data protection principles, as defined in that Law.
