Request

With regard to the news that a second candidate has incorrectly completed a nomination form when standing for the States I would like know the following;

A

As these forms are evidently too complicated for some prospective members to complete properly, is guidance or training ever offered by the Parish Secretaries in advance of nomination night to anybody wishing to stand?

B

How much additional time is used up in checking these nomination forms by the Parish Secretaries should mistakes occur, and when anomalies are presented to the Royal Court for guidance, what are the general court costs incurred and who ends up paying the bill?

Response

A and B

The majority of the information requested is not held by the States of Jersey. The information is more likely to be held by the Parishes.

This response is in reply to the final section of this request - “when anomalies are presented to the Royal Court for guidance, what are the general Court Costs incurred and who ends up paying the bill?”.

The Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 provides a right of access to information held in our records. We do not hold the particular costs information requested. The Judicial Greffe Annual Report published on www.gov.je provides figures for the number of cases heard in all Courts and Tribunals as well as financial information related to running the Court Service.
