C

Total number of food services.

D

Total number of independent food services.

E

Total number of tourism services (eg Creepy valley adventure centre, aMaizin Adventure Park and so on).

Response

A to E

The States of Jersey are not able to provide the level of breakdown that has been requested. Statistics Jersey produce a labour market report from the Population Office Manpower survey data. This report can be found at the following link and includes a breakdown of companies by sector (eg. “Hotels, restaurants and bars”, “Wholesale and Retail”), split by size of company:

Labour market report

Companies are coded into sectors using the Standard Industrial Classification. In this classification there is not a specific sector for “Tourism”, and undertakings that engage in these type of activities will generally be included under the “Hotels, restaurants and bars”, “Wholesale and Retail”, and “Other business activities” sectors. The “Other business activities” sector includes a wide range of services, many of which are not “tourism” services.

Statistics Jersey have been able to break the data down further and have provided the below information by sub-sector.

Sub-sector

Number of Undertakings
Retail sale in non-specialised stores130
Retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores70
Retail sale of pharmaceutical and medical goods, cosmetic and toilet articles20
Other retail sale of new goods in specialised stores 270
Retail sale of second-hand goods in stores20
Retail sale not in stores430
Hotels80
Camping sites & other short-term accommodation (eg. guest houses)120
Restaurants, cafes and takeaways200
Pubs, bars and clubs50
Other entertainment activities (eg arts, amusement parks and so on)120
Library, archives, museums and other cultural activities20
Sporting activities140

Information is not recorded as to whether an undertaking is “independent”.
