States of Jersey equality and diversity policy (FOI)

States of Jersey equality and diversity policy (FOI)

Request

I am specifically interested in the application of diversity and equality policy within the States of Jersey Departments, but particularly within the Law Officers Department. I need to know how many States employees have declared disabilities, broadly the definition of those disabilities, and what if any reasonable adjustments have been made, or for that matter refused and on what grounds. And how is adherence monitored, or breach dealt with.

Response

65 States of Jersey employees are currently recorded as having declared to their employer that they have a disability which falls within the parameters of the following definition (as used within the States of Jersey diversity and equality policy);
“An individual who has a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day to day activities”

Adjustments are made on an individual basis and no central record is maintained given the personalised requirements and medical confidentiality.

There is no record of any refusal of adjustments.

In the event of a breach of the policy any complaint received would be investigated and, if merited, reasonable adjustments would be applied.
