Liver transplants (FOI)

Liver transplants (FOI)

Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 18 February 2019.
Prepared internally, no external costs.

Request

Please could you provide information on:

A

Numbers of people who have been sent for a liver transplant in the last 10 years year by year.

B

Numbers of people given the opportunity of liver transplant year by year.

C

Number of deaths due to liver failure year by year.

Response

A

In the last ten years (2009 to 2018) there were a total of nine patients sent for a liver transplant in the UK. A year by year breakdown is not possible due to the risk of low numbers identifying individual patients.

B

The opportunity for a liver transplant is not a patient opt in or opt out process. Individuals who are deemed as meeting the criteria for transplant are referred to the UK for review and assessment. It is only once assessed as suitable that the patient would be added to the transplant list by the UK Hospital Liver transplant teams

Further information may be obtained in the attached report.

The figures below relate to the number of incidences where Liver disease has been the underlying cause of death – ICD-10 Codes K70-K77. The numbers have been rounded to the nearest 5 to prevent possible identity of individuals.
