Request

A

Who owns the land at Le Port where the camper vans park?

B

What is the official use of the land intended for?

C

If the land was left to the Islanders of Jersey what were the conditions of its use?

Response

A

The land at Le Port where camper vans park is owned by the Public of the Island. The land, previously referred to as Plots 56-61, was acquired by way of four acquisitions on 20 February 1970, 20 March 1970, 26 February 1971 and 19 May 1972.

B

The land does not have an “official use”, however, the area has customarily been used by beachgoers for the parking of vehicles.

On 23 February 2019 the Minister for Infrastructure signed a Ministerial Decision requesting that an Order be drafted under the Road Traffic (Public Parking Places) (Jersey) Order 2006 amending the status of the land to allow restricted parking for a maximum period of 12 hours in 24. The Order comes into force on 22 March 2019.

C

There were no specific conditions of use attached to the four sale deeds. The two 1970 acquisitions contained a 25-year no building restriction (except for buildings / facilities deemed necessary by the States), which ended in 1995.
