Request

Over the past week in the news it has been claimed by Deputy Montfort Tadier as Chairman of the 'Jersey Human Rights Group' that Court cases should be streamed online to be Human Rights Compliant.

I cannot find any Website for this Jersey Human Rights Group.

So I would therefore like to know:

A

Who are the Jersey Human Rights Group, is it part of the States of Jersey, if it is, who is involved within this Group and what Legal Qualifications and experiences do their members hold?

B

Whenever there are any questions about Human Rights issues of any nature to do with the States of Jersey, is this Jersey Human Rights Group consulted for opinions / legal advice and if not, why not, and who is asked for advice?

Response

A

The Jersey Human Rights Group is not a States of Jersey body and is not appointed by the States Assembly. The States Greffe does not therefore hold any information regarding either the membership of the Group or its functions.

B

The States Greffe does not hold any information regarding specific consultation arrangements between the States, or Government, of Jersey and the Jersey Human Rights Group. The Group is nevertheless free to respond to consultations and calls for evidence issued by States Assembly bodies of its own volition, as is the case for any individual or organisation.

This response has been issued on behalf of the States Greffe. The States Greffe is responsible for the information held by (and on behalf of) both itself and the States Assembly. Neither the States Assembly nor the States Greffe form part of the Government of Jersey and the Government was not involved either in the examination and retrieval of any information required for this response, nor in the drafting of the response itself.
