On page 28 of the Government Plan (attached) it states that Every Child Our Future (ECOF) will receive £784,000 in the years to 2023 to improve reading standards.

Government Plan 2020 to 2023

Please confirm - How ECOF were appointed to deliver this work, and why there wasn't a tender process given it is above the limits for procurement and requires an open tender process

B

How these funds will be spent and on what.

C

Has Covid-19 had an impact on this funding and if so what impact?

Response

A

The Government Plan states that this funding will be provided to the Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills (CYPES), not to Every Child Our Future (ECOF). It states that this funding will be used by CYPES for Reading Recovery. ECOF are seeking further corporate sponsorship to match our funding and continue the partnership with CYPES in providing reading volunteers in our schools. ECOF are a registered Jersey charity and information about their services can be found here:

Every Child Our Future

B

The £784,000 of funding in the years to 2023 will be used by CYPES to fund the employment (training, support and supervision) of teachers in the Reading Recovery programme.

C

We don’t yet know of any impact to the funding as a consequence of Covid-19.
