My question is regarding the law with regard to Planning Applications, especially with regard to building housing for rentable accommodation, either by Andium or any private landlord.

Could you please tell me what the law states with regard to the minimum standards required for new dwellings, broken down on a room by room basis.

A

What is the minimum size required for a bedroom for single occupancy?

B

What is the minimum size required for a bedroom for double occupancy?

C

What is the minimum size required for a bathroom and what is the basic requirement for facilities?

D

What is the minimum size required for a kitchen and what facilities must be provided?

E

What is the minimum size required for a sitting room?

F

If the kitchen is not large enough to accommodate a table, how is the size of the sitting room adjusted to accommodate this facility?

G

Is there an overall minimum size for buildings of one, two, three or four bedrooms?

H

Is there an allocation of space for wardrobes and / or internal storage?

I

Is there a requirement for external storage?

J

Is there a requirement for dedicated parking?

K

In the case of an estate, is there a requirement for parking for essential visitors such as doctors, health care professionals and so on.

L

Is there a requirement for sufficient disabled parking?

Response

A to L

The information you have requested is exempt under Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 because the information is already accessible to you on www.gov.je within the planning pages linked below.

Residential standards

Housing developments specifications (planning policy note)

Car parking standards

Parking (planning policy note)

The Government of Jersey recognises that these standards need to be updated, which is why this has been proposed within the draft Bridging Island Plan which is currently out for public consultation.
