Request

I'm writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act to request some figures around homelessness.

I would like a breakdown of how many people are recorded homeless in Jersey and also in Guernsey since the start of 2015. If I could get this as a breakdown year by year so I can see the difference from seven years ago until the end of 2021. And then if I can get some stats so far in 2022 too that would be great

Response

The number of homeless persons is not recorded by any scheduled public authority, including the States of Jersey Police. Public authorities based in Guernsey are not "scheduled public authorities" as defined by the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011. Consequently, the requested information is not held in accordance with Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) law 2011.

Article applied

Article 3 - Meaning of "information held by a public authority"

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a) it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b) it is held by another person on behalf of the authority
