Request

Jersey has signed up to the Paris Climate Agreement. Please can you provide details on what Jersey's Government has agreed to do to meet this obligation, and if it includes geo-engineering and spraying chemicals in our skies thank you

Response

The United Kingdom's ratification of the Paris agreement was extended to Jersey in May 2022. It sets out a continued framework for reporting on the island's emissions and commits Jersey to an ambitious emissions reduction trajectory, with the target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. There are also interim targets of 68% reductions by 2030 and 78% by 2035, with the baseline of 1990 emissions.

The States Assembly approved the Carbon Neutral Roadmap in April 2022, which sets out policies needed to reach these targets.  It includes a broad range of policies that require further detailed development but are focussed mainly on emissions reductions from the main emission sectors of transport and heating.  None of these policies include geo-engineering or spraying of chemicals into the skies. Information is publicly available on www.gov.je. Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.
