Please provide copies of policies and procedures pertaining to the handling of complaints within the States of Jersey Police.

Response

Complaints against the States of Jersey Police (Police Officers) are investigated by the Professional Standards Department (PSD) who abide by the Police (Complaints and Discipline) (Jersey) Law 1999 and Police (Complaints and Discipline) (Jersey) Order 2000. Complaints made against Police Officers by members of the public are independently overseen by the Jersey Police Complaints Authority (JPCA). All information requested is publicly available on their website which can be accessed at Jersey Police Complaints Authority (gov.je). Please see link below. As such, the requirement to provide further information is not applicable. Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Article 23 - Information accessible to applicant by other means

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge.

(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.
