Produced by the Freedom of Information office
Authored by States of Jersey and published on 23 June 2016.

Request

A

Could you please disclose for each of the last five years a breakdown of how much has been spent on non-economy flights ie premium, business class, first class by each department?

B

Could you also disclose how much was spent on flights by politicians, and how much on flights by officers?

Response

A

On 10 June 2016 the States of Jersey has recently published a review of Travel Policy and Recommendations for Improvement.

Appendix Two of the review contains a breakdown of flight costs during 2014 and 2015 and provides a breakdown of the class of flight booked.

View Review of travel policy and recommendations for improvement

Examination of the detail of travel booked and paid for has been limited to 2014 and 2015. This is to reflect the quality of information available, as the corporate contract with Hogg Robinson Group (HRG) has only been fully in operation for those years. It is estimated that the provision of the information requested prior to 2014 would exceed the cost time limit of 12.5 hours set out by the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 and this part of the request is refused.

B

It would not be possible to provide this breakdown in more detail than that already supplied as part of the appendices to the review within the cost time limit of 12.5 hours, set out by the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 and this part of the request is refused.

The flight costs incurred by Ministers and Assistant Ministers are already published on an annual basis. The most recent available figures form part of Appendix Three.

The review recommends that details of all flights and hotel bookings over £500 are published on a six monthly basis. The first of these biannual reports will be prepared for publication in 2017. This report will contain the figures requested for 2016.
