Our Advanced Nurse practitioner has been stopped from admitting acutely ill patients today (21st march) by a Hospital Bed manager.
This will cause a delay in ill patients being admitted.
We are aware no other surgeries have had this imposed.
I would therefore ask;
Does the General hospital have a policy on only allowing admission by Doctors?
Can this not be done by Paramedics or Advanced nurse Practitioners acting on behalf and under guidance of general Practitioners?
Response
Health and Care Jersey’s Patient Flow and Bed Management Policy outlines the process for General Practitioner (GP) referred patients. The current policy does not reference other professions which may work within a GP practice as part of the referral process.
Further development of the policy is currently taking place; as part of this update, the wider Primary Care clinical workforce will be added for GP heralded referrals.
