Authored by States of Jersey and published on 18 August 2016.

Request

A

How much has it cost in staffing and equipment, over the last five years, for Transport and Technical Services, currently the Infrastructure Department to clear the sea lettuce from Jersey beaches?

B

How much has been spent on commissioned reports, in the last five years, into the sea lettuce problem in Jersey?

Response

A

The information requested is not held in a form specifically against sea lettuce clearance on the Island's beaches.

Staff and equipment costs are collected against a budget covering all forms of beach cleaning work, much of which is not specific to the clearance of sea lettuce.

However, in an attempt to honour the spirit of this request, best estimated costs for the last five years are provided as follows:

Sub-contractor costs£57,000
Equipment costs£60,000
Staff recharge costs£85,000
Total estimated costs£202,000

B

A total of £32,092 has been spent by the Department for Infrastructure in the last five years on commissioned reports into the sea lettuce problem in Jersey.
