What to expect

Ward rounds

Multi disciplinary ward rounds are undertaken daily. Your nurse lets you know when your doctor is likely to see you. We can arrange for a nurse or doctor to speak to a family member by prior arrangement.

Meal times

Having a healthy balanced diet and good fluid intake is vital to your recovery from illness. Our mealtimes are:

  • breakfast at 8am
  • hot cooked lunch at 12.30pm
  • dinner at 5.30pm

Let us know if you would like us, a relative or carer to assist you at mealtimes. We cater for special dietary requirements.

Flowers

Due to allergies, infection control issues and space, we kindly ask that flowers are not brought on to the ward.

Mobile phones and Wi-Fi

You can use mobile phones and other electronic equipment on the ward, as long as they are used respectfully. Wi-Fi is available so ask us for details.

Recovery

Recovery is a team effort and you play an important part to help you to recover quickly. Keep moving during and after your stay on the ward. The physiotherapists can give you exercises and ideas. Keep doing as much as possible for yourself to maintain your muscle strength and functional abilities.

Valuables

We recommend you leave all your valuables at home as we don't accept any responsibility for their loss or damage.

What to bring

On admission, you need to bring:

  • all medications you’re currently taking
  • loose casual clothes and night wear
  • well supported and comfortable shoes
  • necessary toiletries

As part of your care assessment, we encourage you to wash and dress as independently as possible.

When we discharge you

It’s important that you arrange to be collected when you’re discharged. Let us know if you need a medical certificate. We’ll let you know of any outpatient appointments you need by a letter sent in the post. You may be referred to the Rapid Response Reablement Team or other services if required.

Contact us

You can contact us from Monday to Sunday. If we’re with patients, we cannot always answer the phone straight away, so try again later. Suggested telephone times for routine calls are after 10am daily.

We only provide information to your relatives and friends with your permission. One person, nominated by the patient, should make enquiries to the ward. Patient confidentiality is essential.

There are occasions when we're unable to share information. Contact the ward manager if you need to discuss this:
