Sometimes we may ask you to leave so we can carry out nursing or medical tasks.

Children on the ward

We don't encourage young children coming into critical care. Due to the nature of patients that we have, some children can find the environment scary. If you believe that your child will cope with the environment, speak to the nurse in charge about visiting.

What to expect

Flowers

Due to allergies, infection control issues and space, we kindly ask that flowers are not brought on to the ward.

Infection control

On admission to the ward, we screen all patients for MRSA. We repeat these screens every Monday. Each bay is cleaned daily with a further intensive decontamination performed once a week.

Ward rounds

ICU consultant ward rounds are between 8.30am and 9.30am.

ECA ward rounds are normally before 11am daily.

What to bring

Please only bring in essential items such as toiletries and a small amount of money. Ensure valuables are taken home or handed to your nurse for safe keeping.

Relative flying to UK: what to bring

Some patients need specialist care in a UK hospital. We arrange all necessary travel for the patient. In most circumstances, relatives will not be able to fly with the patient.

Patients will need:

  • a passport
  • clothing
  • toiletries
  • some money in a small bag

Contact us

We only provide information to your relatives and friends with your permission. One person, nominated by the patient, should make enquiries to the ward.

Confidentiality

Patient confidentiality is essential and there are occasions when we're unable to share information. Contact the ward manager if you need to discuss this.
