Organisations providing support to children and young people's wellbeing

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)

CAMHS is a mental health assessment and therapeutic service for children and young people, from the age of 5 to 18 years of age, and their families.

They offer a range of 1:1, group and family interventions to help with mental health issues such as:

  • low mood, anxiety or depression
  • trauma, psychosis, or obsessive compulsive disorder
  • eating disorders
  • self-harm
  • other emotional or mental health issues
  • neurodevelopment assessments, such as ADHD or Autism

Practitioners can refer a child or young person for mental health support by completing the Children and Families Hub online form.

Parents and young people can seek advice from a Mental Health Practitioner by attending the Youth wellbeing drop-in. This runs every Saturday from 10am to 6pm at the Youth Enquiry Service (YES).

All requests for mental health support received by the Children and Families Hub will be considered by a mental health practitioner. They will contact the parent and discuss how best to meet the child or young person's needs. For those requiring CAMHS support, an assessment will be arranged and following this, a range of options may be offered including:

  • individual therapy
  • family therapy
  • support for parents and carers. This can be individually or through a group programme
  • group therapy, children or young people with similar difficulties seen together in groups)
