Parent Infant Psychotherapy (PIP) Service

About PIP

We support parents who struggle to relate to, or have any positive feelings about, their babies. The aims of our service is to:

  • meet the immediate presenting problems in the infant (feeding, sleeping issues)
  • help the parent and child feel more positively about themselves and their interaction
  • support the child to learn how to regulate their emotions through the relationship with there parent or guardian

Our service is for parents who have babies up to the age of 5, and parents who are expecting a baby. We address questions, worries and concerns focusing on the interaction between parent and child. We build on your strengths while recognising the challenges you may have.

You may find our service helpful if:

  • you're struggling with how you feel about being a mum or a dad
  • you have had a difficult or traumatic birth experience and this is affecting how you feel about being a parent
  • you have experienced trauma as a child yourself, and are fearful of the impact this may have

  • your baby struggles to sleep or eat
  • you persistently worry about everything
  • you're feeling isolated or lonely
